The best confidence quote.

I saw a quote just the other day that made me start thinking about what it truly means to be confident, and how my personal idea of confidence has changed drastically through the years. The quote was this: Confidence is not "they will like me". Confidence is "I will be fine if they don't". Oooh, every time I hear that it gives me the chills because it is so perfect, and it brings back so many feelings from the past.
Confidence is not "they will like me". Confidence is "I will be fine if they don't".
The difference between confidence, arrogance and just not caring.
My immediate realization after seeing this comment was "Wow, I was actually AFRAID of being confident when I was younger!" I say I was afraid of being confident because I was confused about what it truly meant. I didn't realize the difference between confident and arrogant. Arrogance was, and still is, one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I didn't want to be arrogant, so I held out on being confident for a fear that it may create arrogance. Wow. That was a lot of word vomit, but it is so true!
I would say it was close to halfway through high school when I realized there was a difference between being arrogant and being confident, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. I just knew I was STILL bothered by arrogance, but I ENVIED the confident girls. I envied the girls that could be themselves day in and day out without a care in the world. Therefore, I decided I was going to be "confident". I quit worrying about what I looked like. I wore sweatpants almost EVERY day. I didn't do my hair or makeup. I ate whatever I wanted and gained weight like crazy. After all, I was showing I didn't care right? Gahhh, I truly let myself go there which was also quite unhealthy.
The healthy balance of confidence in your life.
Fast forward a few years of bouncing back and forth from one extreme to the other, and I finally learned BALANCE. That is the keyword... balance. I can honestly say I am getting to a place where I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, but I still take care of myself.

I ENJOY doing my makeup. I ENJOY working out. I ENJOY dressing up. I ENJOY trying and learning new things. I don't do these things because I am worried about what others think, I do them for ME. It's all part of that self-love journey. I am learning to love myself inside and out, and because of that, I am going to take care of myself. I am going to let my true beauty shine through, and I am going to enjoy every moment of doing so.
